  VOLUME, DISPLACEMENT & SURFBOARD DESIGN

HOW VOLUME & DISPLACEMENT AFFECT SURFBOARD DESIGN

Displacement is the volume of a fluid displaced by an immersed object. In surfboard design, the degree that surfboards by their volume and geometry and surfers by their size and technique displace water.

Static Displacement in surfboard design is the degree that a surfboard displaces water based uniquely on the volume and geometry of the surfboard combined with the size or volume of the surfer.

Dynamic Displacement in surfboard design is the degree that surfers displace water with their surfboards based on the combined volume of the surfboard, the surfer's size, and the surfer's technique and board management skills.

Ultimately, it is Dynamic Displacement that determines how much volume is appropriate and how that volume is configured for every surfer and surfboard.
